Minimal Access Surgeriesare the surgeries that are performed by making tiny or small incisions in the body and inserting a thin tube with a camera attached to the other end into the body through the incision. The images/ video captured with the help of the camera are viewed on a monitor and they allow the surgeon to observe or treat the affected area with the help of surgical instruments.
Current images are of High Definition resolution due to the advancement in optics and transmission allowing achievement of utmost safety. 3D systems are also available offering similar benefits.
It may be conventional laparoscopy using multiple ports for camera and instruments or Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS) when only one incision is made usually at the umbilicus.
The incision are then closed after the procedure is carried out.
